Broker Expo: Staying relevant with people and technology

One week ago we hosted stand 40 at Broker Expo – our last event of the year before we blink and we’re in 2019. We’ve been attending Broker Expo for 5 years but this time was a year we did things a little differently. It was the first time our Underwriter Sam Benham had attended, and we also welcomed our new Business Development Manager Alan Savage. Adam Bevis and I also attended as usual, but for Adam it was the first time attending with his new role of Trading Manager. For us it’s important to have our Business Development Managers and Underwriters at the event because by working in tandem we are able to provide brokers with the opportunity to build relationships throughout our business. To know that they are supported by more than just the Business Development Managers who can visit them, but also by the team they talk to every day. Relationships are vitally important to us at Gresham Underwriting, and it was fantastic for each of us to touch base with the broking network in one location, as one united Gresham.

A key theme throughout Broker Expo was the passion and innovation that is present in our profession. Insurance is an important part of the economy and shows no signs of decreasing in relevance. From the work of the CII in encouraging and nurturing talent into our industry to the ever-evolving technology available, the future for insurance is exciting, but we have to be careful to remember that everything we do must be to the benefit of our brokers. Too many businesses flock to every kind of technology without actually working out if it’s right for their business. For us, technology needs to compliment the business and make life easier for our brokers. We at Gresham Underwriting embrace innovation and as an online platform, technology is at the heart of what we do. Broker Expo really hit home the importance of choosing the right technology and combining it with the right people in order to still be relevant in to the future.

As an MGA we are able to be dynamic and flexible in our approach which helps us to maintain our goal of relevancy. We can listen to our brokers and act upon it to create new products and services quickly and efficiently. We build relationships with our brokers, invest in our people and work with data and technology on a daily basis. Staying relevant and combining elements of the business is key to the growth of Gresham Underwriting, and following Broker Expo it’s cemented just how far we have come in achieving this.
